Driver Manager

Birmingham, AL

As a Driver Manager at J & M Tank Lines, Inc, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our transportation solutions.
You are responsible for managing a team of drivers, ensuring their compliance with schedules, company policy, Federal regulations and maintaining strong communication with both drivers and others on your team.
Your primary goal will be to maximize driver performance, efficiency, and satisfaction while delivering exceptional customer service to our internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Make safety-conscious decisions while ensuring compliance with all company and federal DOT policies, regulations and procedures.
  • Balance the needs of our customers, our drivers, and the business resulting in a high degree of efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provide ongoing direction and leadership to drivers and internal associates to ensure excellent customer service, key factor achievement and associate development.
  • Address and resolve any operational challenges that may arise, finding creative solutions when necessary.
  • Collaborate with others in the organization to identify and implement creative solutions to improve retention.
  • Manage driver payroll, vacation time and home time.
  • Provide direction and leadership to office, terminal or driver associates to ensure superior customer service and associate performance, keeping team members informed, focused, and motivated.
  • Establish strong business relationships and maintain open and timely two-way communication with the customer and driver and office associates.
  • Communicate daily with internal customer service, operations, maintenance and safety departments to ensure safe and timely delivery.
  • Build and maintain relationships with your team of drivers.
  • Communicate and distribute driver dispatches daily.
  • Manage and support drivers through all necessary paperwork through J&M Mobile App and electronic log systems.
  • Work as a team and cross train with Customer Service and Planners.
  • Any necessary related tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or transportation experience preferred
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Problem-solving and decision making abilities
